I recommend this car charger to anyone that has a car battery that has been dead a while. I had a solar charger hooked up for a week and nothing bought this unit has easy instructions and stops when done charging. this black and decker unit saved my battery ans saved me from being towed. I u have a dead car, truck, or van battery u will be back up in 24 hours no problem.

I didn’t try the 40 AMP Engine Start capability but the 15 AMP Battery Charger works as advertised to charge a car battery. It took me about 4 hours to fully charge a battery from the point that would not turn over the car’s engine beginning around 10.5 volts. My wife has a twenty year old Lexus and only drives the car around town; not enough to keep the battery charged which I have replaced several times thinking the battery was bad. This charger solved my problem.

Does charge dead batteries

Used this to charge a dead battery, even though others here stated they had no luck. It does state in the manual that it will not charge a battery that is less than 2 volts, but you can. While you cannot use the boost function and the charger just shows “FLO” as though the battery is fully charged, i was able to charge a dead battery. I first set it overnight to battery reconditioning mode and then the next 24 hours left it trickle charge (“FLO”). This did charge the battery enough to start the normal charge cycle and also to use the boost function. Battery is now fully charged and working. I would also recommend to use the reconditioning function to bring the battery to full capacity again. If you are looking for a quick boost, then this will not do that, but if you have a day or two, then this charger will do what you want.
Also love the automatic feature because you can leave it on the battery without fear of overcharging.

An eighteen-months-old NAPA Legend battery with 690 CCA taken off a daily driver needed reconditioning/desulfation because hydrometer showed 1.25 SG in all six cells. This is not a dead battery, which was sitting somewhere for years. The voltmeter showed 12.55 V. The charger charged it in 10 minutes and switched to FLO mode. At that point, I started reconditioning and was monitoring specific gravity every 24 hours. In 72 hours there was no change whatsoever. You still probably can use it as a charger/maintainer but do not count on it if you need to revitalize/recondition a battery.

I bought this about 18 months ago and have used it less than 10 times. I liked the design and the features. Nice cable and power cord management. Did a good job of charging my marine battery. Just hooked it up yesterday and the charger was completely dead. No beeps, no display, just dead. Looking for a more reliable brand.

Fake News

Going back tomorrow and I’m frustrated. It won’t recognise a dead battery at all. it has a hard time recognizing a charged battery so I almost returned a perfectly fine battery. I’ve used chargers like this for 35 years and I can honestly say that this is the most ridiculous contraption ever which is par for B
